Names of SE Alaska plane crash survivors released

Posted: July 25, 2013 - 12:54pm

KETCHIKAN — Alaska State Troopers said people who were injured in a floatplane crash Wednesday on Prince of Whales Island are from Florida and Washington.

The pilot of the de Havilland Beaver, operated by Ketchikan-based Promech Air, was 65-year-old Charlie Kenlin of Florida. The passengers were Washington residents, 37-year-old Martin Lakey, 65-year-old Michael Lakey and 65-year-old Rich Webster.

Their hometowns and conditions were not immediately available.

All are expected to survive the crash.

The crash triggered an emergency locator beacon. Promech Air personnel also received radio communication from the pilot who said the plane’s engine was failing.

Troopers say a Coast Guard helicopter picked up two of the occupants and flew them to Ketchikan General Hospital. The Coast Guard returned for the other two, who had minor injuries, according to troopers.
