Board of Game calls for proposals

Want to influence Alaska’s hunting regulations? The Alaska Board of Game has called for proposed changes to hunting and trapping rules for Southeast and Southcentral regions of Alaska.

Deadlines for proposed changes to rules governing Southeast (Game Management Units 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) and Southcentral (Units 6, 7, 8, 14C and 15) are due by May 1 for consideration during the Board’s 2018/2019 meeting cycle.

The board considers a wide variety of proposals for hunting and trapping rules: Hunting seasons and bag limits for subsistence and general hunts for all species; trapping seasons and bag limits; big game prey populations and objectives for intensive management and predation control; restricted areas, including controlled use areas, management areas, closed areas and closures in state game refuges.

Two topics will be considered for all game management units. Those are an exemption for fees for brown bear tags and a reauthorization of antlerless moose hunts, which state law requires be reauthorized annually.

Proposals may be submitted by mail, fax or online. Web submissions can be entered online at www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=gameboard.proposal. Email proposals to dfg.bog.comments@alaska.gov or mail comments to ADF&G, Boards Support Section, P.O. Box 115526 Juneau, AK, 99811-5526. Proposals can be faxed to 465-6094.
