World-wide candle lighting ceremony unites those who have lost a loved one

The Compassionate Friends — Juneau Chapter invites those who have lost a child to design and assemble a candle for their loved one as part of the organization’s 21st annual Worldwide Candle Lighting Ceremony. Organization members invite attendees to bring a framed photo of the loved one they are honoring to be displayed during the candle lighting ceremony.

TCF’s ceremony unites bereaved family and friends around the globe to honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and grandchildren who have passed away. As candles are lit, hundreds of thousands of people will commemorate and honor the memory of loved ones gone too soon. The Worldwide Candle Lighting creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone.

The local gathering begins Sunday, Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Thunder Mountain High School in the red wing academics commons. Candles will be lit outside promptly at 7 p.m. Refreshments will follow.

The Compassionate Friends is a nonprofit organization that supports bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings who have experienced the death of a child, grandchild or sibling.
